Oakland County Helps Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners will hold a series of seminars helping residents avoid foreclosure of their homes.

The first “My House, My Future” seminar will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the West Bloomfield Township Public Library, 4600 Walnut Lake Road.

Other seminars will be held: from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the White Lake Township Hall, 7525 Highland Road, in Highland Township; from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Oakland County Executive Office Building, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road, in Waterford; and from 6:30 to 8:45 Jan. 16 at the Baldwin Public Library, 300 West Merrill, in Birmingham.

Also participating in the seminars are: Lighthouse Community Development; the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency; housing counselors from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Agencies and LaSalle Bank.

Oakland County has been hit hard by foreclosures this year, recording 3,389 mortgage foreclosures through late July. That’s a 21% jump from the same period in 2006.

The seminars are free and open to the public.
