Mortgage Rates Rise
(AP) - Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, reported Thursday that the average rate for 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages rose for the second straight week this week to 6.42 percent, up from 6.34 percent last week. Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, averaged 6.09 percent this week, up from 5.98 percent last week.
Five-year adjustable rate mortgages averaged 6.15 percent, down from 6.21 percent last week. One-year ARMs averaged 5.60 percent, down from 5.65 percent. It marked the fourth straight weekly decline for both adjustable-rate categories.
