May 2008

HARTFORD, Connecticut - May 29 2008 - The state’s economic development agency says the number of new housing permits issued in April continues to reflect the economic slowdown.

The state Department of Economic and Community Development reports that the number of housing permits issued statewide last month was 51 percent lower than a year ago.

Last month’s total also marked a 6 percent drop from March, when 386 were issued.

Through the first four months of the year, 1,454 permits were issued statewide, a 28 percent drop from the number issued during the same period in 2007.

Statewide, Manchester issued the most permits with 24, followed by Milford and Shelton.
